Event flyers ad promotional materials are much different than effective website design. The concepts that work in web don’t translate 1-to-1 when it comes to print.
Placing a physical object in someone’s hand is different than asking someone to pull up a link on their tiny glowing rectangle – or desktop monitor.
The following is an example of a handout I helped a local taekwondo instructor create. it was delivered to the kids through the school – so it needed to do a few things.
First – it had to appeal to the kids and get their attention. The combination of an exciting font and a little cartoon ninja would no doubt grab their attention. We needed them to take it home and give it to mom & dad.
Second – it needed to give parents a good reason to take on the extra hassle and expense of getting their kids to class. You can see that the text focuses on all of the real-world benefits to taekwondo – not just “HEY COME KICK SOMEONE IN THE FACE!”

No matter what you’re designing, you need to know who your audience is, and how you can reach them. Designing anything without this information is a complete waste of time.
